Mark Okwir

Co-director

Dr. Mark Okwir, a consultant physician and senior lecturer at Lira University in northern Uganda, is presently pursuing a PhD in Epidemiology at the University of Rochester School of Public Health as a Fulbright Scholar. His diverse expertise encompasses infectious diseases related to HIV, hepatitis, and meningitis in rural sub-Saharan Africa. Dr. Okwir plans to  continue his research initiatives in Uganda after his PhD to guide a new generation of researchers in community-informed research and imparting epidemiological methods in disease surveillance and monitoring.

In his role as Co-director at MARA-RHC, Dr. Okwir offers crucial insights into the local contexts of community health initiatives and research. He actively engages in partnerships with surrounding health and academic institutions, contributing to the advancement of rural health in Uganda.
