David Meya

Co-director

Dr. David Meya is an Associate Professor at Makerere University and an Adjunct Professor at the University of Minnesota. With a specialization in central nervous system infections and HIV Immune Reconstitution Inflammatory Syndrome (IRIS), Dr. Meya leads multi-site studies on cryptococcal meningitis and TB meningitis treatments and outcomes. His role extends to the implementation of a national cryptococcal antigen (CrAg) screening program, contributing to improved policies for the diagnosis and treatment of cryptococcal meningitis. Through collaborative efforts with the Ministry of Health, the Clinton Health Access Initiative (CHAI), Central Public Health Laboratories, and the U.S. CDC, he aims to improve health, treatments, and decrease patient mortality.

He currently chairs the Advanced HIV/TB Technical working group at the Ministry of Health and is a founding member and Co-director at MARA-RHC, Dr. Meya brings expertise in infectious diseases, particularly in the field of neurological infections research. His collaborations with the Ministry of Health, educational and research institutions highlights his commitment to impactful partnerships to improve health informed by research.
